I thought I would have a browse through some of the new releases in the young adult (YA) genre. I am currently reading Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson, which has been good so far. I will be reviewing it some time soon. For now, here are some new YA books that I think sound like they could be pretty good.
This cover of this book reminds me of We Were Liars by E. Lockhart and the plot includes similar themes of mystery and drama. It is about a young girl who loses six weeks of her memory after being involved in a terrible accident. She awakes to find herself the center of a murder investigation, with the media framing her as a sociopath who intended the death of her best friend.
The Leaving is the story of six children who go missing from their home town with no explanation. After eleven years, five of the children return. None of them remember what happened. Lucas and Scarlett remember each other. But, none of them remember the sixth child or why he still has not returned. This story outline has the potential to be amazing if it offers some good answers to all the questions is poses. I just hope aliens aren’t involved in any of those answers.
This is the story of one girl’s personal struggle with body dysmorphia. Samantha dreams of being a professional ballerina, however her battles with anxiety obstruct her path to stardom. She goes to a treatment summer camp and meets Andrew, who starts to help her believe in herself. This book sounds like it will contain some more emotional themes and it certainly doesn’t seem to be the lightest read. However, stories of personal empowerment and determination are inspiring and I think this story sounds really good!
These three books are just a few I came across but there is certainly tonnes more! The YA market is huge and new books are constantly being released. I am also hoping to get into a new YA series soon, so if you have any recommendations please comment below!
